International Film Festival: Created in 1960, the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival (FICCI) is the oldest film event in Latin America and is held between February and March of each year. Since its foundation, the FICCI has welcomed and celebrated the risk and renewal of views in the cinematography of Ibero-America and the world, with a special attention to the development of Colombian cinema and its international dissemination. National Beauty Contest: The Contest is a contest held in the city since 1934; the winner receives the title of Miss Colombia and is the representative of Colombia in Miss Universe. It is celebrated in November of each year.
Beaches:
Playa Blanca – Isla Barú: white sand beach, free access, inexpensive gastronomy, and a geographical position, which allows access, by a bridge, from the urban area of historic Cartagena. Likewise, it offers the opportunity to camp and snorkel in its calm waters.
Rosario Islands: archipelago made up of small islands with clear beaches. The most important: Grande, Del Tesoro, Coco Liso, Media Naranja, Del Encanto.
Bocagrande: The best-known golden sand beach in Cartagena de Indias is Bocagrande, which is located on the peninsula south of the historic center, the Bocagrande neighborhood is full of restaurants and bars with a busy avenue, San Martin Avenue.
El Castillo: At the bottom of Bocagrande is El Laguito, which starts from the famous Caribe hotel and ends at a point of land towards the bay known as Castillogrande, which ends at the Santa Cruz fort, which today it is in ruins. Right next to the bay, people can use a path that runs alongside the beach and is often used for walks.
Natural Destinations
Totumo Volcano: Swimming and floating in a small sea of mud is what tourists who come to Galerazamba, 40 km from Cartagena, want. There, visitors climb about 20 m up a wooden staircase that leads them to the mouth of the Totumo Volcano. Once there, tourists descend to the crater to come into contact with a gray and dense liquid, in a space that can accommodate about 10 people.
Mangroves of La Boquilla: Exotic canoe tour through the mangroves of the Ciénaga de La Virgen, rescuing the old route of the 17th century Spaniards, through natural channels and tunnels.
Botanical Garden: Just 30 minutes from Cartagena is one of the most important ecological attractions in the region, with a living collection of more than 300 species of plants from the Colombian Caribbean and one of the few virgin native forests in the region. The Guillermos Piñeres Botanical Garden has several special collections and about 2 km of trails. In the forest there is a very special spring of water that runs all year round. It is an ideal place to meet and learn about the fauna and flora of the Colombian Caribbean.
